THE MANAGEMENT TEAM

Sal S. Benti, Director, President and CEO

Sal Benti joins CEYX Technologies as President and Chief Executive Officer.  With over 30 years of industry experience, Mr. Benti will be responsible for the strategic direction of the company, as well as building, managing and integrating all aspects of CEYX's business and operations.

Prior to joining CEYX Technologies, Mr. Benti served as CEO of Malibu Networks, a 3G wireless broadband innovator of high quality voice, video and data based on proprietary QoS techniques.  Prior to Malbu Networks, Mr. Benti served in senior executive management positions with responsibilities for strategic planning, global sales, marketing and business development at Adaptive Broadband, ComStream, GE Spacenet (formerly RCA American Communications), CONTEL and ITT Business Systems.


Jorge Sanchez, CTO and Co-Founder

As the Chief Technology Officer and Co-Founder of CEYX® Technologies, Inc., Mr. Sanchez manages all aspects of the company’s technology development strategy. Jorge relies on over 25 years of technology development and engineering management experience at NCR Corporation, National Semiconductor, and over 20 years at Hewlett-Packard to manage the company’s technology development.

At CEYX Technologies, Jorge has developed mathematical laser behavior models, designed algorithm and hardware for laser control systems and has developed technologies that will allow the company to develop new platforms. He is the primary author on over 27 issued and pending patents.

Prior to CEYX Technologies, Mr. Sanchez was a partner and founder of Omni Tracking Company, which developed FSK communications transmitter and receiver units for wireless communications products. During his tenure at HP, Jorge worked on ink-jet technology, ASICs, CAD and new product introductions.

Mr. Sanchez earned both his Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering with a specialty in optics and computers from San Diego State University in 1977 and 1981, respectively.


Edward Triebell, Vice President Marketing and Business Development

Edward Triebell joins CEYX Technologies as Vice President of Marketing and Business Development. Mr. Triebell will be responsible for all aspects of Marketing, Product Management and Business Development at CEYX to ensure both current and future global product and technology adoption. Mr. Triebell brings to CEYX in excess of 18 years of industry experience in telecommunication equipment sales in the mobile cellular, cable television/DOCSIS cable modems, fixed wireless systems, and satellite communication systems. Additionally, he has direct experience in the selling of RF , microwave and millimeter wave semiconductors, components and technologies.

Prior to joining CEYX Technologies, he held the positions of Vice President of Sales Operations and Vice President of Sales for Asia and Latin America at Axesstel, Inc., a leader in the design and development of fixed wireless voice and broadband data products where he helped grow the business from $62 million in 2004 to more than $90 million in 2005.

Prior to joining Axesstel, he was responsible for International Business Development at Superconductor Technologies Inc., a manufacturer of RF link enhancing equipment for mobile cellular base stations, where he successfully penetrated markets in Latin America and Asia. He has successfully developed international markets in Latin America, Asia, Africa and the Middle East for companies including Aegis Broadband, L-3 Communications, ComStream Corporation, and Scientific-Atlanta. Prior to his tenure in sales and sales management, Mr. Triebell worked as an RF design engineer. Mr. Triebell holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Florida Institute of Technology and has completed graduate course work for his M.S.E.E. and the M.B.A. degrees. He also attended the Executive Management program at the Wharton School of Business.


THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS


Fred D.Lawrence, Chairman of The Board

Fred Lawrence, a Venture Partner of Shepherd Ventures, brings with him more than thirty years of global experience in telecommunications, having served in executive capacities in both the service and manufacturing sides of the industry. Fred participates in screening investment opportunities and currently serves as Chairman of Silicon Systems and CEYX Technologies, two of Shepherd Ventures' portfolio companies.

Fred began his career with the pre-divestiture AT&T, working in both local and long distance operations for 12 years. In 1982, Fred was recruited to join United Telecommunications (now called Sprint) where he worked in local telephone operations (including as CEO of the Florida operation), directory, supply, and wireless, and in the mid-1980s, was the executive responsible for the construction and operation of Sprint’s 38,000-mile fiber optic network. In 1994, Fred’s experiences in manufacturing began as President of ADC Telecommunications’ Transmission Group, and later included CEO of Comstream and Chairman/CEO of Adaptive Broadband. Since retiring from Adaptive Broadband in 2001, Fred has been active with Shepherd Ventures and instructing at San Diego State University.

Fred received his BS in Electrical Engineering from Western Michigan University. He has served on several boards of directors of various technology companies, and is currently Chairman of the Board of SiliconSystems as well as a board member of San Diego Hospice & Palliative Care. In addition, Fred has served several charitable organizations, including United Way, the American Cancer Society and United Arts.

George Kenney, Director

As the Managing Partner and a co-founder of Shepherd Ventures, Mr. Kenney has a strong technical background combined with extensive Wall Street and financial industry experience. George has been a successful manager in rapid growth environments, turning around struggling operations and developing and mentoring high technology companies. He specializes in information systems and networking, and pioneered optical recording technology.

Before forming Shepherd Ventures, George was CTO and Partner at Nicholas-Applegate, a money management firm in San Diego, where he directed the technology infrastructure expansion necessary to grow the company from a local presence to a network of international locations. Prior to Nicholas-Applegate, George was CTO and Managing Director at Kidder Peabody in New York City. Previously he held top information technology positions at Swiss Bank, Salomon Brothers and the American Stock Exchange. As Director of Research for North American Philips and co-founder of Digital Measurements Corp., George obtained numerous US and foreign patents, many in optical technology.

Mr. Kenney holds an MBA in Finance from Columbia University, an MSEE from Stanford University and a BS in Electrical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Additionally, he attended the Optic’s Program at London’s Imperial College and is a graduate of Harvard University’s Industrial Management Program. A noted technology futurist, George is a frequent keynote speaker at financial conferences on The Future of Technology. He is also a Trustee and pro-bono Chairman of the Investment Committee of the San Diego Museum of Art.


Philip K. Smith, Director

As a Managing Director at Stone Canyon Ventures, LP, Mr. Smith has managed numerous strategic transactions for clients, employers or as a principal in the areas of real estate, electric power generation, cable television, natural gas transportation and oil and gas exploration. Earlier he served as President of Tri-Valley Oil and Gas, a California exploration company, President of American Energy, Inc., a Los Angeles based Energy Company, and later as sole principal in Capital Energy, Inc.

Until recently, Mr. Smith transacted business through Smith Associates, which was formed to fulfill "outsourced" corporate finance and business development functions for small and medium sized businesses. Mr. Smith sits on the boards of Lighting Technologies International, CEYX® Technologies, Inc., and Gump's, current portfolio investments of the Partnership. Additionally, he managed the transactional aspects of power generation for KN Energy.

Mr. Smith holds a BS degree in finance from the University of Denver.
